A few days ago, my English teacher, Mrs. Sumar told me and my friends about a real English debate championship in Senior High School 1 Banjarbaru. Because Mrs. Sumar was one of the jury for this debate. We were invited to go there on Tuesday, February 17th 2009. We were very happy because that was the first experience for us to watch the real English debate championship directly. The purpose was to learn something from the debate. We must know how the real debater did their job. Before that, we had a practice of small debate interstudents of grade Eighth A of Junior High School 1 of Banjarbaru. The first turn were mine and my partners, they were Mitha and Karin. And our opponents were my best friend, Hafiz and his partners, they were Bayu and Kornelius. I thought, It was not real debate because we didn’t know what our jobs and how to do that, so we did it unsuccessfully.
Then, on Tuesday, February 17th 2009, we went to Senior High School 1 of Banjarbaru after we had a math test. Because of that, we got the second turn to watch the debate after grade Eighth B of my school. Actually, we got the first turn, but we got math test. We went to Senior High School 1 of Banjarbaru on foot, because the school was near our school. I went there with Dewi and Yesa, because the other students of my class were already there. When Dewi, Yesa, and I came there, some student of the Senior High School 1 of Banjarbaru commitee asked us to fill our name and our signature in book of attendance there. Then, we went to the second floor of school. Then, we met again with the other students of my school. After that, a few students of grade Eighth A and B of my class joined in one class room. They talked about something busily. And there were some students of the other Senior High School preparing a match of debate.
We waited and waited, but the debate was not started. Then, we moved to the other room near the stairway, after someone of the commitee told us to do so. Because of being tired and thirsty, Dewi, Fina, Tyas, Maya, Vina, Aisyah and I went out of the room to a small cafe opposite of school. We bought some snack and some beverage there. And we came back to the room. We still had to waited and waited our turn to watch the debate competition. Then, around 02.30 p.m, our turn was finnaly came. The students of grade Eighth A of my school whose absen number one until ten entered to watch the fourth match of the debate. But, some students were absent. A few minutes later, some students went out from the debate room. And so, in the room there were just Andri and me as students from Junior High School 1 of Banjarbaru who still watched the English debate championship until finished. I wrote my opinion of the speakers of affirmative team and negative team. I think, the debate was so interesting.
The affirmative team was the students fromSenior High School 3 of Banjarmasin team A, they were Laksonaria as the first speaker, Anggraini Triastuti as the second speaker, and Nour Zatullah as the third speaker. And the negative team was students from Senior High School 1 Martapura team B, they were Sauqina as the first speaker, H. Rahmatullah as the second speaker, and Novianti A as the third speaker. The motion for the debate was “this house believe that the strong leadership is the key to nation development”.
I think, the first speaker of affirmative team just gave a little of definition of the motion, and she often read the paper, and she also spoke with the low volume, and her emotion was in a stabil condition. The second speaker of affirmative team spoke with loud volume and emotionnally, she spoke clearly and quickly, she was very ambitious. The speaker of affirmative team was getting stuck with the frequently words when he delivered his arguments, his emotion was stabil, He said his argument for a long time.
The first speaker of negative team had a good arguments, she often read the paper, and she spoke with the low volume, and her emotion was in stabil condition. The second speaker of negative team could speak well without getting stuck and read the paper, he did it suddenly, he could response the argument of the affirmative team quickly. The third speaker of negative team spoke quickly and often read the paper.
